Our philosophy is that if we are having fun, then we must be spending some money. It therefore follows that we can afford to spend a little less and give some to charities that are in keeping with our overall view of the world. As the group began to evolve into its current structure, we supported a charity called Cavy Rescue. Since then, we have also supported a local rescue centre, Folly Wildlife Rescue. Our home page displays a picture of our first cheque presentation of £100 to Folly in February 2010, when a very interesting presentation was given about hedgehogs by Aimee Taylor, an education officer with Folly. Aimee can be seen receiving the cheque. A further donation was given later in the year. In September 2011, some members of the group visited the new Folly animal hospital.

Charitable Activity

The group has also made donations of £25 to the Vegan Society and Vegetarian Society in recognition of their work and also to acknowledge that the group values its affiliation to both organisations.

The group has a very broad age range and is open to anybody who is, or wishes to become, vegetarian or vegan. Social activity is an important part of the life of the group. Every year we try to  engage in outdoor activities with, of course, a vegan/vegetarian element. The pictures above were taken on a day trip to the Bluebell Railway. Many of us agree that this is a great day out. As ever, the food is brought by members and shared amongst us. Good food, good company and a fun day out in the sun. What could be better?

The picture below shows a cheque for £200 being presented in September 2011 by John, one of our coordinators, with some group members, to Dave Risley of Folly at the new, soon to open, Wildlife Rescue Hospital. The day ended with a guided visit to the rescue centre to see the many animals that are being helped by Folly.
